- Meet the pastor: In the year 1978, God began to speak to Dr. Gertrude Dixon in a mighty way, and also she was visited by God in dreams & visions. He spoke to her and said, "Go to Martinsburg, and tell people what I said, Hearken diligently unto Me, and eat ye that which good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Dr Dixon was an ordained minister at the time. She spoke to her husband, Elder Joseph Dixon first and afterward she went to her Pastor, Elder Joe M Fowlkes, and told him what the Lord asked her to do. He agreed with her because the Lord had showed him some of the very things about having service in Martinsburg. Dr. Dixon did not know anything about Martinsburg, WV; so she asked her husband about Martinsburg, WV. When they came to the town of Martinsburg, the Lord began to speak to her again about the people, and how they need to be saved. A later day in the month of May 1978, Evangelist Dixon came to Martinsburg alone, but with Jesus on her side, she began to knock on doors, up and down Charles Street, asking people to let her in, and read the Bible to them. Some would let her in, others would not. God showed her a vison, Big Joes Tavern and Pool room on Charles Street. Once or twice a week, she would go in front of this tavern, and call the people on a musical power horn across the street, and give them the word of God. The back of her car was her pulpit. Many were to the Lord Jesus Christ right from the street. To God be the glory! Later in the same month of May, the Lord spoke to Evangelist Gertrude Dixon, and said, ask someone about having Bible studies in their home. She obeyed God, and asked a young woman by the name of Rose Joseph, about having bible studies in her house on West Burke Street at 12 noon. Through the leading of the Lord, she went across town to Capital Heights townhomes to Sister Juanita Hamilton's house for prayer. She then asked Dr. Dixon to go over to her sister-in-laws house, Sister Juanita Banton's house. She went in and had prayer with her, and asked if she wanted to accept the Lord in her life. She said, "Yes." The Lord came into her life sitting at her kitchen table. Praise God!
